Córdoba Moves Forward with Operational Coordination for L’Étape Argentina by Tour de France

The provincial government coordinated with mayors and local chiefs on the territorial, security, and organizational operations for the international cycling event.

The competition will pass through several inland towns and will once again position Córdoba as a host of major world-class sporting events.

The Government of the Province of Córdoba held a working meeting with mayors and local chiefs from the towns that will be part of the route of L’Étape Argentina by Tour de France 2026, with the aim of advancing territorial, logistical, and security coordination for one of the most important international sporting events the province will host.

The meeting, held at midday in the Ministers’ Hall of the Civic Center, brought together provincial authorities and technical teams from the towns of Bialet Massé, Casa Grande, Córdoba City, Cosquín, La Calera, La Falda, Malagueño, Mendiolaza, Río Ceballos, San Roque, Santa María de Punilla, Unquillo, and Valle Hermoso. These localities are part of the race route and will play a key role in the overall operation.

During the meeting, the main organizational aspects of the event were addressed, including route planning, estimated passing times through each town, traffic closures and detours, security and health operations, and the joint actions required between the provincial government and local administrations to ensure the smooth running of the competition.

Joint Work, Territorial Planning, and the Orange Economy

The Minister of Institutional Liaison and Management, Miguel Siciliano, highlighted the value of the orange economy as a driver of development linked to hospitality, gastronomy, culture, recreation, and sports. “This means jobs for thousands of people in Córdoba and a strong impact on tourism, hospitality, gastronomy, and the entire economy related to sports, in addition to coordinated work between the Province and municipalities so that the event can take place across the entire territory,” he said.

The official stated that “the Tour de France coming to Córdoba is no coincidence. We were chosen because of our roads, our infrastructure, our services, and because there is a province that has been preparing for years to be up to the standards of major global events.”

In this context, the Minister of Government, Manuel Calvo, expressed pride in Córdoba hosting a competition of this magnitude and encouraged local governments to actively join the organization of the event: “Together with the organizers and the provincial government’s departments, we work with each municipality and commune on a plan that guarantees the success of the event. To achieve this, we must work together, using our best resources, with professionalism and good communication.”

He also emphasized the economic and tourism impact generated by the event: “Our Governor Martín Llaryora clearly understands that promoting the orange economy means strengthening the local economy. In an event held in only 23 countries worldwide, Córdoba being chosen is a recognition of our road infrastructure and our experience in organizing major events.”

For his part, the president of the Córdoba Sports Agency, Agustín Calleri, focused on the sporting aspect and the conditions the province offers to host a competition of this level: “When Tour de France representatives toured Córdoba, they were amazed. That speaks to our infrastructure and the long-term work that has been done.”

Calleri also highlighted the importance of the route and joint work with the towns the race will pass through: “More than 2,000 participants will ride through different localities, and we want everyone involved so that this competition lives up to expectations and shows the country and the world what Córdoba is.”

Security and Major Event Organization

Regarding security operations, the Minister of Security, Juan Pablo Quinteros, explained that the event will require a significant deployment of human and logistical resources, especially in sections where prolonged road closures will occur: “We will need very coordinated work with municipalities and communes. Each mayor’s commitment is key to organizing traffic, assisting the community, and ensuring the race is carried out safely.”

L’Étape Argentina by Tour de France 2026 will take place on Sunday, March 22, with both the start and finish at the Mario Alberto Kempes Stadium. It will feature two routes: a Long Route of 134 kilometers and a Short Route of 64 kilometers, crossing iconic roads and paths of the Punilla Valley and other inland towns of the province.

The competition will also take place during a standout weekend for national cycling, as it will coincide with the Argentine Road Championship, further strengthening Córdoba’s position as a host of major sporting events.

Registrations remain open, with 500 spots still available for cyclists from across the country and abroad.
